What to Consider for an RV Rental

What to Consider for an RV Rental

When it comes to RVs, people have a lot of questions. Throughout 2020, they’ve been eyeing class C motorhome rentals, camper vans, and travel trailers. However, they have a lot to consider before they dive into the RV life.  Below are a few common questions about finding an RV rental just right for you. Houstonians know Texas is a great place for a road trip. Are you ready to turn up the luxury with a recreational vehicle?

RV Rentals just right for you

Should I Buy or Rent a Motorhome?

When thinking about an RV, you should consider how often you plan to use it. Whether you buy or rent a motorhome depends on the frequency of use. If you’re new to the RV life, it’s always a good idea to rent an RV before you go all-in with a purchase.

To get prices on RV rentals, you can check out our list of rental motorhomes. Prices vary with the size and amenities of each class. Oftentimes, they’re comparable to hotel rooms.

When you’re planning to head out for a week or month once or twice a year, a rental is a great option. If you’re planning a long trek across the United States to view national parks and state parks, you might find it worthwhile to purchase an RV. Moreover, when you own an RV, you can also list your motorhome with TX RV Adventures and allow others to rent it out when it’s taking up space in your driveway.

With gas prices remarkably low this year, both options make sense because your fuel costs are likely to be quite reasonable.

The RV Rental Just Right for You!

Whether you buy or rent an RV, there are plenty of RV classes available to choose from. Some of the most popular types of RV are motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. A travel trailer is one of the most basic forms of recreational vehicles. However, each class of RV comes in a variety of sizes and options for amenities. With a travel trailer, you can easily hitch it to the back of a vehicle. While most work, we’d recommend an SUV or a truck for their added hauling strength.

Similarly, a fifth wheel also comes in an array of sizes. However, these come with a special hitch that connects to the bed of a truck. If you don’t already own a pick-up, this might not be the option for you.

For your first RV rental just right for you, Houstonians might want to try these out. These two options are a great introduction to the RV life. They both allow for increased flexibility. Moreover, you can stow it at an RV park and take your car or truck to check out a nearby town.

Oftentimes, people think a motorhome is too hard to drive. However, to some, they offer much more drivability. Ultimately, it depends on how comfortable you are with towing or maneuvering a large vehicle.

Typically, class C motorhome rentals and class B motorhome rentals are popular because they aren’t as massive as a class a. Class B and C often come with enough space and amenities for solo or small family trips. Class A motorhomes offer far more luxury. However, they are also the size of a bus.
Above all, the main things to consider for your RV are your lifestyle and needs. This will help you decide which RV is right for you.

Do Rentals Require a Commercial Driver’s License?

Frequently, we receive inquiries like this about RV rentals. People want to know whether they need a CDL to drive a recreational vehicle. Ultimately, it depends on the size of the vehicle. In the Lone Star State, you do not need a commercial driver’s license (CDL) to drive an RV.
However, you might need a Class A or Class B license if you purchase a vehicle that weighs over 26,000 pounds. This mainly applies to class A motorhomes because of their size. At times, some class B motorhomes (also known as camper vans) require a special license. Still, the average class C motorhome has a truck-like chassis, so the average driver’s license works just fine.

What Do I Do If I Can’t Find an RV Park or Campsite?

There are a plethora of apps available these days to help people find campsites. When people find themselves in a pinch, they can look up a nearby campground and see what’s available. However, people do find themselves in tricky situations. Some choose to camp out in a parking lot for a night before they head out in the morning.
While TX RV Adventures doesn’t advise this in general, you should be sure to ask permission before you spend the night in someone’s lot. A great option to keep in mind is a highway rest stop. Oftentimes, they allow motorhomes to stay overnight.

In Texas, this is perfectly fine so long as you don’t stay longer than 24 hours. Moreover, you should not pitch a tent at a rest stop.
