RV Rental Pickup Day in Spring, TX: What to Expect

Your dates are booked and the coach is reserved. The next question is usually the practical one. What actually happens when you turn up at the lot?

Here is how collection day works at our lot on Rhodes Road in Spring, from the week before through to driving out the gate, so there are no surprises on the morning you leave.

The week before you travel

A few things happen ahead of the day, and several of them need something from you.

• Your security deposit is charged seven days out. It runs $1,500 to $2,500 for a motorhome, and it is released within about a week of your return, less any damages or usage charges.
• Bringing your own insurance? Tell us in advance. Our staff has to verify your coverage before pickup. The insurance we offer can be removed up to 24 hours before your trip begins, but only once that verification is done.
• Planning to tow a car? Let us know when you book. You bring the flat-tow equipment and the braking system, the towed weight has to stay under 5,000 lbs, and there is a flat $100 tow fee. We keep the hitches locked, so this is not one to spring on us at the gate.
• Travelling above 5,000 feet? Mention it at booking. Altitude affects propane appliances like the water heater, the furnace and some refrigerators, and we will tell you what to expect.
• Bringing the dog? Pets are welcome, up to three, with a $100 pet fee.

What is already on board

This is the part most families over-pack for. Every rental comes with:

• Bedding
• Kitchen utensils and cookware
• Camp chairs
• WiFi
• 200 miles for every day you have paid for
• 4 hours of generator use for every day you have paid for

Mileage and generator hours are allocated on paid days, so a four day rental carries 800 miles and 16 generator hours to spend across the trip however suits you.

At the lot

We are at 21619 Rhodes Rd, Spring, TX 77388, open 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, seven days. Give us your arrival time when you book so the coach is ready and someone is free to walk you through it properly.

The walkthrough is the part of the day worth slowing down for. You will be shown the systems you will actually use on the trip: water, power, the generator, the slide-outs, the awning, the refrigerator and the tanks. Ask everything. There is no silly question about a vehicle you are about to drive to a state park with your family in it.

Two habits worth forming before you pull out of the gate:

• Close and latch everything. Cabinets, drawers, the refrigerator, the bathroom and bedroom doors, the overhead vents, and every undercarriage compartment. Things that swing open while the coach is moving cause real damage.
• Photograph the coach, inside and out, before you leave. It takes two minutes and it keeps the deposit conversation short at the other end.

Plan the return before you go

Three things are yours to handle at the end, and all three are easy if you build them into the last day of the trip rather than the last hour.

• Fuel. Bring it back with at least as much as it left with, or it is a $50 refuel fee plus the actual cost of the fuel.
• Propane. Return it full, or it is $50.
• Tanks. Empty black first, then grey, then flush. Leave it for us and it is $50.

We hand you a list of nearby places to do all three on the way back, so it is one stop rather than a chore.

What you do not have to do is clean it. The cleaning, restocking and sanitation fee is flat, and it is already on your invoice. That is the whole point of it. Nobody wants to detail an RV at the end of a holiday. The rates page lists the flat fee for each class of coach.

One rule with real teeth: no smoking or vaping of any kind inside, at any time. Evidence of it means a $500 additional cleaning fee to cover ozone treatment. The full rental policies are worth ten minutes before you travel.

A short list for the morning

• Driver’s license for whoever is driving
• Your own insurance paperwork, if you arranged verification in advance
• Tow equipment and braking system, if you are towing
• Food, clothes and toiletries
• Time. Do not book the walkthrough against a hard departure deadline
