6 Labor Day Trips for Your Next RV Adventure

Labor Day Trips in Texas

Labor Day trips are a great way to get a break from life and the perfect time for an RV adventure. With the glory of a three-day weekend (at the tail end of a hot Texas summer), there’s no better opportunity to load friends or family into a motorhome rental and hit the road.

Not sure where to head on your trip? If you don’t want to go too far but still find something amazing, there are plenty of beautiful destinations right in our own backyard!

Across Texas, there are wonderful towns and cities near major destinations like Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Each comes with its own unique museums, stunning parks, and a range of activities not available elsewhere.

When you’re ready to hit the road, these destinations are perfect for Labor Day trips.

#1 Galveston

For many Texans, Labor Day is the perfect time to hit the beach before the summer ends. Galveston Island is an excellent choice because it provides both the bustling city vibes and laid-back beach life. With miles of sandy beaches on its shores, there’s plenty to stay busy with throughout the weekend.

Whether you relax on the beach or treat your tastebuds along Seawall Boulevard, Galveston Island has something for everyone.

Head over to the Strand Historic District and take in the sights of Victorian-era buildings before you enjoy the thriving nightlife.

#2 Fredricksburg

Boasting a pride for its German heritage, Fredericksburg is a destination for Labor Day trips unlike any other. The charming historic architecture is a beautiful backdrop to an abundance of wineries and breweries. As you cruise through the Haupstrasse, you’ll find locally owned craft stores and grand German restaurants.

#3 New Braunfels

Much like Fredericksburg, New Braunfels wears its German-Texan heritage like a badge of honor. Still, this quaint little community is better known for Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resort. This premier waterpark is a great attraction for families because it boasts rides for people of all ages.

Moreover, New Braunfels is home to two pristine rivers, which makes it a perfect spot to float, fish, and swim. After a full day on the water, the town offers an excellent range of restaurants sure to suit all tastes.

#4 Abilene

When you need a Labor Day trip that’s perfect for the kids, why not head over to the “Official Storybook Capital of America,” Abilene? As you wander through the downtown area, you can find yourself on a scavenger hunt for beloved storybook characters, like the Lorax or the Cat in the Hat. Next, browse the exhibits at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature

Still need more to do? The Abilene Zoo is a great destination to see a range of wildlife. If you want to see some wildlife for yourself, you can also head over to Abilene State Park for a weekend of camping.

#5 Brenham

What’s a great way to beat the heat on a hot summer day? There’s nothing better than Texas’ own Blue Bell Ice Cream. Whether you pass through on the way to camp at Birch Creek State Park or plan to stay for a while, it’s a great chance to savor a scoop of your favorite flavor.

Moreover, Brenham is just a short trip from four different wineries, giving you the chance to swing by for a tour or tasting. For history buffs, Brenham is the Birthplace of Texas, where the state constitution was ratified in 1836.

The appeal of Brenham is in the inviting small-town charm. However, it’s only about 75 miles from Houston, which makes it a quick getaway for locals searching for quaint Labor Day trips.

#6 Marble Falls

As you cross Highway 281 into the city of Marble Falls, the rolling hills of oak trees and the shimmering waters of the Colorado River are there to greet you. This lovely Hill Country destination is just 50 miles out of Austin, but they have everything you need for a quick getaway on Labor Day Weekend.

Rent a kayak and head out onto Lake Marble Falls or enjoy the stunning landscape from Lakeside Park. Not feeling a full weekend of camping? Treat yourself to a bit at the Blue Bonnet Cafe or grab a drink at the local craft breweries.

This charming city boasts unique boutiques with plenty to browse. Moreover, it’s a short drive to some of the best wineries the Hill Country has to offer.
